On our way home from Italy we visited Sandro to see how he was getting on. We found him in quite a lot of pain from headaches but in his usual good natured manner. He is now unable to move much having lost the use of his legs and it is quite amazing how resilient he is (see the comments below in his own words).

Alessandro Ruzzi update His wife Sylvia is proving a life saver, acting as his nurse and giving him great care and attention. They both welcomed us into their home and provided a lovely lunch accompanied by wine and home made ‘Watermeloncello’, a bit like Aquavit but drinkable. The work to their apartment is under way and we viewed first hand the start of the new bathroom and door widening, there really is a lot to do and he is so thankful for the support of the brethren of the Hayes (Kent) Lodge and there is no doubt it would be impossible for him if these works weren’t being carried out. It shows the strength of true freemasonry that the lodge is in a position to help him.

Also a tremendous shame on Freemasonry that Masonic Charities refuse to give a single euro to help UGLE members living overseas.

Quotation Mark
Monday home we had the pleasure to host three members of Hayes Lodge: chief "big twisted nose" aka Bro Steve, chief "48seconds, impossible" aka Bro Bob and chief "48 seconds believe me" aka Bro Jim.

They saw the on going works but did not help: they ate and drunk, then left. But they confirm the financial help from the lodge charity and from individual brethren: this makes things much easier for myself and it is difficult to express my thanks as compared to the poor attitude from Italian freemasonry. As per my status, drugs I am given to control headache force me to stay home, I hope things improve soon. I am not sure I can make it for next meetings, I hug you all.

I therefore ask Steve to forward my thanks to participating Bros confirming that the Ruzzi family will return 40 to 50% of expenses once the local institutions pay back (hopefully beginning of 2017)”.
